BEHIND THE NAME

The word ‘Toile’ is commonly used in dressmaking & tailoring practice to signify a prototype, an early version of a finished garment, often made up in cotton or muslin material so that the design can be tested and perfected. It originates from the French word toile meaning cloth or canvas. The brand name TOILÉ STUDIOS embodies our fashion practice, that it is a constant work in progress, a plain canvas that is constantly being moulded and modified.

DESIGN PRACTICE

TOILÉ STUDIOS is an independent womenswear brand that focus on innovative wardrobe solutions. As a fashion practice, TOILÉ STUDIOS is constantly pushing the boundaries of multifunctional garments, with signature detachable, reversible, and transformable features. The pieces can often be worn multiple different ways, encouraging the wearer to explore new ways of interacting with the pieces.

"TOILÉ STUDIOS finds inspiration from classical archetypes in the past, elevated with innovative aspects of the present, creating the future wardrobe."

MANUFACTURING

Adopting the slow fashion method, we always ensure the pieces are trans-seasonal, encouraging responsible consumption to our customers. Our brand puts thoughtful design in the centre of our practice, slowly and locally produced in the designer’s hometown in Jakarta, Indonesia working with both local artisans & Australian business and manufacturers. TOILÉ STUDIOS also operates on a made-to-order business model to eliminate excess stock and only manufacture individual orders complete with specific measurements. This ensures the ability to cater to different body shapes and produce long-lasting personalised garments that are made for you and only you.

THOUGHTFUL SOURCING

With sustainability in mind, we always source our fabric locally and thoughtfully, considering every step of its supply chain. We often opt for natural, renewable, and bio-degradable fabrics such as cotton and wool while where we have to use synthetics, we source low-impact recycled synthetic fibre with guaranteed ethical/transparent supply chain from our reliable local manufacturers. As part of our commitment, we always ensure that all our printing processes are OEKO-Tex approved, which ensures that the dyeing processes are free of harmful substances.
